My first introduction to meditation was at the Wisdom 2.0 conference in San Francisco, back in 2014. It was a quite interesting event and eye opening experience for me personally. Prior to that I was one of those people who are quite proud on being a “great multitasker” and doing as much as humanly possible!
What I learned that weekend was that I was spreading myself so thin that I was not even taking the time to enjoy a lot of the experiences I was lucky enough to be part of. Life was passing thru me without me even taking the time to absorb, process and enjoy the most precious moments.
That year was also soon after I had my daughter Julia and I was even more overwhelmed with adding parenthood to my already busy life. It was quite emotional to realize that when I was with my daughter, I was not really there, but rather had my thoughts and my mind elsewhere, at work or other practicality of life.
Here is where Meditation comes in! Since then I’ve been striving to add some of it in my life, even though I’m still far from consistent. Meditation has helped me see the reality from an observer, less judgmental perspective. It has helped me to learn how to pause, take a step back, re-center, before taking action, specially on moments of challenge. No wonder it’s becoming a buzzword these days across the board – corporate world, education, parenting.
